Easterners just don't get it

In a column entitled Piercing a Silicon Valley stereotype, news.com's Declan McCullagh (he's their Washington, DC correspondent) purports to take a look at the political ethos of the Silicon Valley. But quotes such as:
"In November's race for San Francisco mayor..."
"Registered Democrats and Greens in Berkeley..."
"...for each election cycle since 1998, Microsoft employees have favored..."

Berkeley and San Francisco are not part of the Silicon Valley. Microsoft isn't even a California company!

I lived in the DC area for 15 years and, sadly, nothing has changed. The denizens still believe the world ends at the Beltway and have only the vaguest idea of geography and sociology on "the other side".
